What is Wakeboarding? Wakeboarding is the new extreme water sport catered for the adrenaline junkies. It is a combination of surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding and waterskiing. A wakeboard looks like a fat snowboard with a pair of bindings attached to it. The wakeboarder carves turns with body leans and by rocking the board. During competition, wakeboarders do flips and spins and other acrobatic stunts in the air and on the water. These tricks are spectacular to witness — some athletes go as high as 25 feet in the air while doing a maneuver. Wakeboarding is included in the X-Games which features exciting non-Olympic sports such as sky surfing, rock-climbing, skate-boarding and mountain-biking. NTU Wakeboarding Club NTU Wakeboard Club was formed since 2001 with the aim to gather all wakeboard enthusiasts and to promote the sport within the campus. This club is established for both leisure and competitive purposes. NTU achieved 1st runner-up placing in the first inter-school friendly competition organized by SWWF in 2002. Thereupon, NTU has been participating in the annual Inter-Varsity Polytechnic Wakeboard Championships (IVPWB). The club organizes introductory course (Initiation) each semester and a trip to Batam Cable ski each semester vacation. The club also renders support and assistance to activities organized by NTU Sports Club such as the annual sports camp. |
